Host a Screening

The Elephant in the Room is a romantic comedy about a lonely progressive woman who meets a charming guy she might want to date – until she learns he voted for President Trump. Their awkward courtship stumbles forward as she attempts to influence his views, with her own assumptions and blind spots getting challenged in the process. It’s a sharp, funny and heartfelt film about trying to connect across the political divide.

“I firmly believe that the opportunity to explore a cross-cutting political relationship in the context of a playful romantic narrative allowed for the students to think more openly about the nature of political difference and the possibilities of bridging political divides.”

“Screening The Elephant in the Room was a perfect way to elevate the idea of promoting civil discourse because it did so in a lovely, lighthearted way, which allowed students to see themselves in the story. This opened up conversations that happened for days after the screening about how to see the human behind the different political opinion.”

– Leah A. Murray, Ph.D.
